I am adding a whole bunch of new music (55 CDs!) to the Christmas Music 24/7 stations. One thing I’ve noticed as I’m preparing the music for broadcast, many of the CDs from independent artists don’t have a label name or copyright year listed. It seems odd I know, but I must report the year of the song’s copyright, and the label name to SoundExchange when I send them my monthly report detailing all the music I’ve played.
So if you recently sent me a CD, and I write you asking for your label name, don’t be alarmed or upset. If you aren’t signed with a label yet, I can put your name, or your band’s name. That “label name” is how you’ll get your payment from Sound Exchange for your performances online. So whatever you choose, be consistent with all the stations you send your music.
